Anyone who’s been keeping an eye on the Book Project gauge over on the right will have noticed that it’s moving along. The final few thousand words are all that’s needed for completion.

If you’ve checked out the info page, you’ll have seen that it’s about being a freelance writer without doing any marketing.

If all goes to plan, in a couple of days I’ll reveal a lot more – the title, what’s in it, who it’s for… and I’ll also start looking for proofers to get an opinion from the fledgeling freelancer public. Stay tuned and make sure you don’t miss it!

Today is a very big day for me. It’s been a long time in coming. Though some may be more used to this, it’s a first for me, and it’s a major event.

I have just published my first book on Lulu!

“My Name Is Pie” is the story of a rescue cat, who is taken from his nasty owner and adopted into a loving home. It’s written to be read to children or for beginners to read for themselves and has pictures for them to colour. The illustrations were created by Lidia Ivanova.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I’m giving away freebies. 10 copies of “My Name Is Pie” are up for grabs, in the colouring book format: this not only includes the story, but also reproductions of all the illustrations in a larger, easy-to-print size for your kids to scrawl on to their hearts’ content!

Mentally Disturbed Writers

Just a short entry today since I have an important anniversary this evening. One of the posters over at MyLot (that’s a paid-to-participate forum place) mentioned a rather interesting little talk by Elizabeth Gilbert. She wrote a very successful book called “Eat, Pray, Love” and here discusses some of the implications of trying to continue writing when, quite possibly, she’s been as successful as she ever will.

It’s an interesting talk and also quite amusing to hear how one person manages with the popularly-perceived concept that all great writers go mad in the end. It runs for just under twenty minutes (or about an hour and a half if your connection sucks as badly as mine).
