Stress Relief
The other day, I made a comment on my life which went something like this (I tidied up the structure a bit, since it was a tweet):
I cannot die of frustration, nor of constant stress & harassment. I am not sure that this form of immortality is good.
It was a Big Stress Day, you see. The funny thing is that, like most comments on Twitter, it went largely unnoticed as expected. I had one reply, however, that made me stop and think. A follower, who also visits here, said this:
A life without STRESS is a life without PASSION & CHALLENGES!
The capitalisation is as posted, not mine. Now, I don’t know about you, but that sounds like an incredibly bad thing to believe.
I know what she meant, of course: that a life without some kind of pressure to do “great things” – however you define them – would be rather monotonous and dull. But the actual phrase is terrible.
A life can most certainly have passion and challenges, without being stressful. At least, I believe it can, and I’d better be right.
Because that’s pretty much my aim as a freelancer.

Perhaps unnoticed because too few have found you…I only found you today thx to stevehart. Suspect I may be a potential junkie.
I hope you are right but in my experience:
LIFE+CHALLENGES-STRESS=UNREALITY. If your PASSION can overcome the CHALLENGES in your life without STRESS you are a rock star and I would like to know your secret.
You are right about my response to your stressful tweet. Pressure(stress) is a great motivator and without it I don’t think I would accomplish much. That is what I was trying to say in 160 characters but would love to hear how you would phrase it?

JR: No bad feeling was intended, rest assured – I knew exactly what you meant, and agree in many ways.
It was the raw words, taken literally, that would be awful, in my opinion. That’s the trouble with Twitter and TXTspeak – it’s very hard to properly express an idea in so few characters!
As for how I’d phrase it… hmm. I’d put less emphasis on the stress side, with something like “A bit of stress is sometimes a good kick up the butt.” I’m crap at the whole ‘motivational poster’ language thing, because I dislike them so much (see note on quotes in that Twitter post..!!).
As I said, you gave me food for thought. That’s a very good thing, thank you!
