The ScrawlBug Giveaway
Today is a very big day for me. It’s been a long time in coming. Though some may be more used to this, it’s a first for me, and it’s a major event.
I have just published my first book on Lulu!
“My Name Is Pie” is the story of a rescue cat, who is taken from his nasty owner and adopted into a loving home. It’s written to be read to children or for beginners to read for themselves and has pictures for them to colour. The illustrations were created by Lidia Ivanova.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, I’m giving away freebies. 10 copies of “My Name Is Pie” are up for grabs, in the colouring book format: this not only includes the story, but also reproductions of all the illustrations in a larger, easy-to-print size for your kids to scrawl on to their hearts’ content!
To win one of the 10 free copies, just leave a comment asking for one and telling me how you heard about the book. The first ten names in the list will receive their eBook at the email address on their comment (which doesn’t get displayed here, don’t worry).
The book is also available direct from Lulu.com, of course. You can find it on my storefront. And it’s cheap!

This is very exciting, Spike! Looks like you got a great illustrator after all your dramas. The story reads well, from what I saw and the colouring in idea is great! We don’t have or know many kiddies, so keep your freebies for other fans. A great job, nonetheless! Best regards and good luck with sales! P.
I hope you have lots of luck with this Spike. Lulu is interesting, but I haven’t had a good time with it. My fault probably. I write better than I promote.
I would love to have a copy of your book. Is it a real hold in your hand book or an Ebook?
ps, I will find a deserving child and force this book upon them, I mean give this book to them. Or maybe the colouring in would be good therapy when/if the words aren’t happening with my werewolf book in progress.
Have been following your requests for illustrators and proofing on twitter. Very pleased for you that it is now out there.
Really interested in the decision making process that went along with the development of this book. A blog post (promo) some time? Will promise to add it to the Sunday post.
Basically I am just being nosey. Come on Spike, what’s the back story?
Just popped over to Lulu, to have a preview but preview is only showing the front cover.
Your call of course, but as a browser I would have liked to see at least the first page pref two. As a browser, after taking the interest to click on preview and not being rewarded with any more info than I already had, seems a bit of a let down.
Wishing you every success.
Paul: Thanks for the ‘grats! Yes, Lidia was brilliant. (She got a bonus at the end, too, since she’d bid low and produced such gorgeous work – definitely recommended.)
Carolyn: Unfortunately it’s only an eBook. I could have published the A5 version (and may do some day), but the one with the subsequent big pics just freaked out their system, since it switches from A5 to A4/letter half-way through!! I’ll pop your copy over in a minute. Get your coloured pencils ready…
Andy: The preview should show as far as page 9 (though it doubles the cover pic as pages 1 and 2 – one of the oddities of Lulu). I shall have to write up the whole process, even though it’s very, very minimal compared to a “real” book release (you know, famous people stuff).
Little acorns, I would say it must have been a valuable part of the overall learning process.
Famous people stuff next. (Well after you play with the marketing bricks.)
Everything crossed for you.
very nicely done
I hope you post this in your earnings summary at the end of the month. It could prove to be one of the most interesting categories.
Spike, I tried to order on Lulu, but got caught in some kind of loop where I can’t give them the information they want and they can’t figure out how to help me. Then I went back and saw your note about the freebie. I will gladly accept on behalf of Brisa, Xavier, Arantza and AndrĂ©a.
Hi there Spike! I read your post on mylot and I sure would love to have a copy of your book and give it to my nephew & niece
My congratulations again to you for your book! It sure looks cute & interesting
Thanks and enjoy your day
I heard about it via a random retweet. It’d make a great present for my little cousin – she’s very arty
Shack/Freelunch: Thanks!
Steven: Yes, it’ll go on there as well, though I doubt it’ll be a significant amount!
Babs/Raenie/Mosh/Jennifer – Your eBooks are sent. Thanks for dropping in – I hope the kids (or you) enjoy it. I can just see all of you now, with your crayons…
Um… Am I late for the free copy?
I heard about this book from the discussion you started at mylot. I am known as the ebook_freak there. I hope you recognized me.
I don’t have any kids at home. I am single. But I am sure my cousins would find it interesting. They are of age range 10-15. Send me the ebook only if the book is for their age.
Thanking you,
Ajith.

Got the free copy! Thanks a lot man!
I am sure the cat must be enjoying in the private cushion next to the window. The story was quite touching at the beginning- throwing into the bath and all the silly acts.
But then it was heaven for Pie. Yup! I read it all. Quite a short story with cute illustrations. My 10 year old cousin would love it.
I am not an experienced book reviewer, but all I can say is that the book is wonderful and would be very sweet for children in the age group 8-10.
And please let me know if I am allowed to take a print of it. I mean, I should have a written permission of the author right? Just one copy- my cousin would want to crayon it….
Although I replied to Ajith by email, I thought I’d best put a note on here that the pictures are intended as print-outs. No permission necessary – that copyright is to discourage people from sending free copies of the file to all their friends, not to stop them printing out pics to colour. Or rather, for the kids to colour…
I came to this post a little late, Spike, but what a great achievement, I’m so proud of you. As they say in your neck of the woods, Cheers!
And, I will be purchasing a copy. So exciting for you my dear!
