The Eternal Circle

March 27, 2009

Every now and then, life seems to go full-circle. It does it without warning, without any kind of indication that it’s about to hand you a counterfeit bill. You just find yourself standing there, dumbstruck, while life wanders away again, chuckling mischievously to itself.

As many of you know, I can’t do “normal” work at the moment because of a health condition. That’s why you all have to put up with me spewing nonsense onto the web all day long. It’s also why I keep an eye on all those freelancing sites, looking out for someone who either wants to pay me a million dollars a year to sit and drink coffee at home or, failing that, to find some copywriting or blogging work.

Once again, GAF has come to my aid. The jobs don’t pay much, but they’re generally fun. That’s the third time this month I’ve found work there – a small blogging job, running a simple blog site and now today’s position.

But hang on a minute, I was blabbering about life going full circle, wasn’t I? That’s because I just found a job stuffing envelopes. Yes, that’s what I said: I used the web to become employed to prepare snail mail. Rather than writing to someone for a job creating online content, as I would have done years ago when snail mail was still the standard, I’ve done the opposite. I’ve come full circle. All those years trying to virtualise my entire life and this happens. Life just threw a glass of water in my face, for laughs.

How ironic.
